Understanding Roles in DocJacket
DocJacket has a few different types of roles, and they work at different levels. Here's how they all fit together.
Your account role
When you first sign up, you pick one of three account types:
Transaction Coordinator (TC)
The most common role. TCs manage deals end-to-end — handling documents, deadlines, communication, and coordination between all parties. If you're an independent TC or work on a TC team, this is you.
As a TC, you get the full feature set: transaction management, timeline templates, task automation, document tracking, client portals, and AI tools.
Agent
For real estate agents who want to track their own deals. Agents see a streamlined view focused on their transactions, tasks, and client communication.
Broker
For managing a team or office. Brokers get visibility across all transactions in their organization, plus team management tools.
Team roles (permissions)
Within your organization, team members can have different permission levels. These control what each person can see and do:
- Owner — Full access to everything, including billing and organization settings
- Custom roles — You can create custom roles in Settings > Roles with specific permissions for things like:
- Transaction management (create, edit, delete deals)
- Communication (send emails, access inbox)
- Reports and analytics
- User management (invite and manage team members)
- Billing access
This is useful when you have assistants, junior TCs, or team members who need limited access.
Contact roles (within a transaction)
Every transaction has people playing specific roles. These are the contact roles you assign when adding someone to a deal:
Clients
- Buyer, Seller
Agents
- Listing Agent, Buying Agent
Legal & Title
- Title Company, Closing Attorney, Escrow Officer
Lending
- Lender, Loan Officer
Service Providers
- Home Inspector, Appraiser, Surveyor, Contractor
Other
- Property Manager, HOA Contact, Insurance Agent
Contact roles help DocJacket organize information and control what each person sees on the Client Portal — for example, a buyer sees different information than the listing agent.
